Old money, or quiet luxury, is an aesthetic of expensive-looking restraint: no logos, classic cuts, and colours that never shout.
What defines it
Navy, camel, cream and forest green. Knitwear, tailored trousers, loafers, collared shirts. No visible branding at all, and fit doing everything.
What to wear
Buy fit before you buy anything else — a tailored second-hand blazer beats a new one that hangs wrong. Keep the palette to three colours. Swap anything with a logo for the plainest version you own.
Where it came from
An old idea with a new name: the look has existed as preppy and Ivy style for decades, and was renamed quiet luxury around 2022 in reaction to logo-heavy streetwear, then amplified by Succession.
What aesthetic am I?
Your Era does not hand you an aesthetic label. It asks what feels stale, names what is keeping your style stuck, and then gives you one look a day built around it: the outfit, the caption and the song. Most people land on their aesthetic by wearing it, not by being told it.
The others
Coquette
Ribbon and bow details, lace trim, sheer layers, pearl and pink accents, ballet flats, and a deliberate sweetness that is the whole point rather than an accident.
Clean girl
A tight bun or slicked ponytail, gold hoops or a thin chain, neutral and tonal clothes, nothing oversized, and grooming doing the work that print and pattern do elsewhere.
Y2K
Low-rise or bootcut denim, cropped and baby tees, tinted sunglasses, chunky belts, metallic and frosted finishes, and shoulder bags worn high.
Grunge
Plaid flannel, band and washed-out tees, ripped or faded denim, chunky boots, oversized over fitted, and a general refusal to look finished.
Cottagecore
Prairie and floral dresses, puff sleeves, linen and cotton, hand-knits, muted greens and creams, and practical shoes that look like they walk somewhere.
Streetwear
Hoodies and graphic tees, oversized on top or bottom but rarely both, sneakers treated as the centrepiece, caps, and an eye on what dropped recently.
Dark academia
Blazers and cardigans, pleated skirts and wool trousers, loafers and oxfords, a palette of brown, oxblood, forest and charcoal, and layers that look like they belong in a library.
